Interplant East Africa Open Days 2025

Interplant Roses recently hosted its Open Days event in Naivasha, Kenya, bringing together industry professionals to explore sustainability in floriculture. Organized in partnership with Flowerwatch, this year’s theme, “Sustainable Together,” reinforced the importance of collective action in advancing eco-friendly practices.

“At Interplant, we go beyond traditional industry showcases to create meaningful experiences. This year’s programme was designed to facilitate insightful discussions with experts who are leading the way in sustainable floriculture,” the company shared.

Key Discussions on Sustainability

The event featured a panel of industry experts, with Maarten van Schie from Practical Impact steering interactive discussions.

Ashlea Gulle from Hoek Group addressed the challenges and opportunities in creating a greener floral supply chain. She outlined how the company optimizes global flower distribution while upholding environmental standards.

Jeroen van de Hulst from Flowerwatch compared packaging strategies in the flower and vegetable industries, highlighting ways floriculture can refine its sustainability efforts.

Elfrieke van Galen from the Rockgroup expanded the conversation beyond carbon footprints, offering a broader perspective on how businesses can integrate sustainability into their operations.

Collaboration and Engagement

What set this event apart was its interactive format. Rather than just listening to presentations, attendees participated in discussions, shared ideas, and explored real-world solutions. This hands-on approach brought the “Sustainable Together” theme to life, emphasising the power of industry-wide cooperation.

After the seminar, attendees toured Interplant’s show greenhouse, where they viewed the latest rose varieties developed for future markets. The experience extended to the trial fields of Royal van Zanten and Kolster, providing an in-depth look at ongoing research and innovation in floriculture.
