Ethiopian Airlines officially launched a cargo charter service connecting Macao International Airport in China to Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport in Spain. Ethiopian Airlines currently operates dedicated cargo services to 70 destinations worldwide, spanning Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
Initially, the new route will run twice a week, transporting a variety of goods. The service is expected to handle over 20,000 tons of cargo annually, boosting cross-border trade from Macao.

This addition follows Ethiopian Airlines’ expansion into other key cargo hubs, including Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong. In December, the airline signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Xiamen Iport Group and a memorandum of understanding with China Henan Aviation Group (CHAG). Aman Wole Gurmu, Ethiopian Airlines’ country director for China, emphasized the route’s potential to enhance collaboration with e-commerce supply chains in the Greater Bay Area.
To support its growing global operations, Ethiopian Cargo added a new Boeing 777 freighter to its fleet in January. This aircraft, the 11th 777F in Ethiopian’s fleet, complements the airline’s diverse cargo capabilities, which also include four converted 737-800 freighters, three converted 767-300 freighters, and two new-build 767-300 freighters delivered in December.
