Trade Fair Aalsmeer and IFTF 2024 Come to an End

The Trade Fair Aalsmeer once again proved to be a bustling hub of floral innovation and networking. Over 600 exhibitors showcased a wide range of plants, cut flowers, pots, and more, drawing thousands of visitors to experience the vibrant atmosphere.

Despite challenges facing the sector, such as regulations on crop protection and the complexities of air and sea freight, optimism remained high. Attendees engaged in important discussions, focusing on sustainability, market diversification, and the debut of new floral varieties.

The Expo Greater Amsterdam in Vijfhuizen simultaneously hosted the 14th edition of the International Floriculture Trade Fair (IFTF). With a record number of growers participating, including newcomers from Uganda, the event offered an unparalleled opportunity for global connections. Growers and buyers alike emphasized the need for diversity and stability, which have become critical strategies amid the current political and economic climate. Many rose growers, for example, have expanded their offerings to include summer flowers, transforming themselves into more comprehensive suppliers.

Sustainability was a major theme, particularly emphasized at Floriforum, held just before the IFTF kicked off. Throughout the exhibition, growers highlighted their efforts to improve eco-friendly practices and secure additional certifications. This commitment to sustainability was evident as participants exchanged ideas and showcased innovative, environmentally responsible products.

Responding to the devastating floods in Spain, florists from six countries joined forces to craft bouquets from booth display flowers. The proceeds from these bouquets were donated to support Spanish florists who lost everything.

Throughout the week, activities extended beyond the exhibition floor, with lively open houses, evening festivities, and award ceremonies celebrating industry achievements. Exciting product launches included biodegradable plant pots, organic flower food, and the latest in seasonal blooms, reinforcing the sector’s vitality.
