October 9, 2025

This October, the world’s premier cut-flower trade show, Proflora 2025, gathered over 7,000 industry professionals from more than 60 countries for three days of innovation, networking, and celebration at Bogotá’s Corferias convention center. With more than 300 exhibitors representing 15 nations, the event marked a vibrant return to in-person engagement that underscored Colombia’s central role in the global floriculture market.
The event kicked off with exclusive farm tours across the Bogotá savanna, providing attendees with a firsthand look at Colombia’s flower farms and their advancing sustainability practices. These visits emphasized the sector’s commitment to fair labor, environmental responsibility, and traceability, responding to increasing global demand for ethically sourced blooms.

A highlight of Proflora 2025 was the highly competitive Outstanding Varieties Competition, which featured 436 new flower varieties from 56 companies. The top accolades included the Grand & Grower Champion for Chrysanthemum “Baltazar Candle” by Flores El Capiro, the Breeder Champion for Alstroemeria “Monza” by HilverdaFlorist, and the People’s Choice Award for Dianthus “Burgundy White” by SB Talee de Colombia. These winning varieties are expected to shape upcoming floral design trends in wedding arrangements and retail markets.
Alongside showcasing exquisite flowers, Proflora hosted informative technical sessions focusing on pest and disease management, biological controls, and supply chain improvements. Innovation was a key theme, with exhibitors unveiling new AI tools for crop monitoring, advanced image analysis systems, and next-generation greenhouse climate controls.

Cold chain logistics also took center stage, with global shipping leader Maersk presenting state-of-the-art solutions designed to extend the vase life of flowers and maintain quality over long-distance transport. These developments are crucial for ensuring that high-quality Colombian flowers retain their freshness reaching customers worldwide.
For florists and retailers, Proflora 2025 offered a preview of trends to watch. Designers can expect an increase in muted color palettes, soft blush tones, and unique exotic foliage in upcoming wholesale catalogs. Sustainability continues to be a strong selling point, with farms ready to provide sourcing stories that resonate with conscientious consumers. Furthermore, advances in postharvest handling and logistics promise longer-lasting blooms in customers’ hands.
Proflora remains a vital global platform, proving that face-to-face connections remain the lifeblood of the floriculture industry. Whether discovering new genetics, forging supply relationships, or spotting design trends, participants left Bogotá energized and better positioned to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global market.
