The MPS-List of prohibited active substances is part of the MPS-ABC certification standard. This list aims to reduce the use of substances that are harmful to humans and the environment, thus contributing to a more sustainable ornamental horticulture sector. With this message, MPS would like to draw your attention to two matters regarding the MPS-List prohibited active substances.
Last year, MPS said that eight new prohibited active substances were being added to the MPS-List prohibited active substances as of 21 April 2025 (P5 2025). This means that as of this date, you will be audited against the most recent version of the list. The substances are as follows:
- Brodifacoum
- Oxamyl
- Bromadiolone
- Difenacoum
- Difethialone
- Flocoumafen
- Bromophos-ethyl
- Coumatetralyl
In addition, the following substances will be added to the MPS-List prohibited active substances as of P5 2026. These substances are being added to the list because they appear on at least two of the following lists:
- POP: The Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants
- PIC: The Rotterdam Convention on Prior Informed Consent
- PAN: Dirty Dozen
- EPA: Banned or Severely Restricted Pesticides
- EU: Pesticide Database Non-Approved Pesticides
- WHO: Class Ia and Ib lists
The substances are as follows:
Active substance | Relevant list | Areas of application |
tributyltin oxide | EU and conventions | Fungicide, Molluscicide |
dimoxystrobin | EU and conventions | Fungicide |
ipconazole | EU and conventions | Fungicide |
methoxychlor | EU and conventions | Insecticide |
If you are still using these substances, MPS will help you in different ways to reduce their use to zero before they are added to the list.
