MPS Updates Colour Coding of Crop Protection Substances in MPS-MIND

MPS has announced the latest update to its environmental indicator system, MPS-MIND, in which the colour coding of active substances used in crop protection products is reassessed on a regular basis. The review looks at both the age of the active substances and the total quantities used by all MPS-ABC participants over the past year, ensuring that the system reflects the most up-to-date information and usage patterns.

In recent months, 23 coded active substances have undergone reassessment. For some of these substances, the categories have changed because new data has become available. This means that growers using these substances may see an effect on their points within the MPS-MIND system. The new categorization will come into effect on 6 October 2025 (period 11), from which date the updated colours will be visible when participants log in to their record-keeping environment.

The impact of each substance also depends on the environmental zone (EZ) in which it is used, as local conditions influence the potential environmental risks. The environmental zones are therefore an important factor in how substances are assessed. Participants can consult the environmental zone overview to see which zone their business or location falls under in each period. More detailed information is available in the MPS-MIND Information Document.

With this update, MPS continues to refine its data-driven approach to sustainability, ensuring that growers have transparent, reliable insights into the environmental performance of their crop protection strategies.
