MPS and Rabobank Join Forces to Accelerate Footprinting in Floriculture

December 4, 2025

MPS and Rabobank are taking a significant step toward a more sustainable floriculture sector with a new initiative designed to make environmental footprinting more accessible for growers. Starting 1 December 2025, Rabobank will offer a special voucher to its business customers in greenhouse ornamental horticulture, covering part of the cost of an environmental footprint calculation using the MPS HortiFootprint Calculator. The programme aims to help growers prepare for rising demands for transparency from supply chain partners, retailers, and policymakers.

Removing barriers to sustainability data

Sustainability expectations in horticulture continue to rise sharply. Buyers across the chain increasingly require verified environmental data, including a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), which maps the environmental impact of a product from start to finish. Although growers recognize the growing importance of these insights, many still find the process complex or costly.

To address this challenge, Rabobank and MPS have developed a targeted, practical solution: a one-time €1,000 voucher for eligible Rabobank clients active in floriculture. The voucher reduces the financial threshold for using the HortiFootprint Calculator, developed by MPS in partnership with LetsGrow.com. With this tool, growers gain straightforward, actionable insight into their environmental impact, insight they can use to strengthen their sustainability strategies and meet market demands.

A strong foundation for a future-ready sector

According to Jos Heubers, product manager for the HortiFootprint Calculator at MPS, footprinting is not just something growers will be required to do in the future; it is already a vital tool for improving operations today. The calculator analyzes sixteen environmental indicators across eight life stages, covering everything from CO₂ emissions and resource use to toxicity and packaging.

Much of the information needed for these calculations is already recorded as part of the MPS-ABC certification, enabling a complete footprint assessment to be completed quickly and efficiently. Enhanced by MPS’s LCA expertise and visualised through the LetsGrow.com dashboard, growers can access a comprehensive overview of their footprint within minutes.

“This is data that truly delivers something,” Heubers explains. “It offers targeted improvement opportunities, comparison with peers and a foundation for substantiating sustainability claims. It helps the floriculture sector to meet the demands of today and be prepared for the requirements of tomorrow. Footprinting makes sustainability concrete, measurable and open for discussion.”

Insight becomes essential, not optional

Regulations such as CSRD, rising energy costs and initiatives like SBTi are increasing pressure on the horticulture industry to demonstrate measurable progress. Rabobank believes that environmental insight is a crucial first step.

“Without insight, there’s no direction, and without direction, there’s no acceleration,” says Arne Bac, sector manager at Rabobank. With this voucher programme, growers can strengthen their position and take the next step in future-proof business operations.

How growers can participate

The voucher programme is open to Rabobank business customers active in the floriculture sector. Once registered with their Rabobank account manager, growers receive a voucher that can be submitted to MPS. MPS then guides the grower through the full process, from data collection to calculation and interpretation of the results. Both the grower and Rabobank will have access to the final footprint insights.
