BASF Agricultural Solutions has announced the acquisition of AgBiTech, a biocontrol company known for its virus-based insect management technologies. The company is being acquired from private equity firm Paine Schwartz Partners and other shareholders, with BASF set to take full ownership upon deal completion, which is expected in the first half of 2026. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
As part of the acquisition, BASF will assume ownership of all AgBiTech assets, including its product portfolio, intellectual property, manufacturing capabilities, research and development facilities, and global workforce. Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, AgBiTech has built its reputation on nucleopolyhedrovirus (NPV) technology, developing insect control solutions derived from naturally occurring viruses. The company operates across key agricultural markets in Brazil, the United States, and Australia, serving growers of major row crops such as soybeans, corn, and cotton, as well as specialty crops.
BASF said the acquisition strengthens its BioSolutions portfolio and aligns with its long-term strategy to advance sustainable agriculture. “AgBiTech has a strong track record of developing solutions designed to help farmers manage insect pests effectively,” said Livio Tedeschi, President of BASF Agricultural Solutions. “We are excited to see this technology complement our existing BioSolutions portfolio, as it underscores our commitment to a more sustainable, holistic approach to agriculture.”
